Personally I think that it's a beautiful name. You have the right to name your baby, and your mother-in-law might not like it, but she had her chance to name her kids.

Since the father loves the name, and so do you, then go for it and forget what the mother inlaw says.

A unique name can be so much better than the name that every other girl has! Trust me I had 27 girls in my high school class with the same first name. I'd rather have a unique name!

The close minded are the only people who won't be able to get past the first name. Their children are the ones that would be rude enough to taunt a child about his/her name. To be perfectly honest....yes, Raspberry is a very different name. At least she won't have to be Hannah B. or Ashley M. because every other girl in her classes name is her own. That's the result of unimaginative parents that follow societies 'guidelines'. I have met many interesting and uninteresting people with unusual names. Those are the people you remember and stick out in your mind. As for your mother in-law she will eventually accept your daughter as Raspberry Lilac, and be unable to see her as anything else.

Will the name, Raspberry Lilac, be spoken of with respect or disdain ?
The lovingly principled, morally guided upbringing in a healthy, joyful home, by mom and dad, will be her best shield against
the negative she may encounter. The building, or destruction, of this foundation will determine her chances of success, or failure,
in life.
Grandma will probably give her a nickname. Big Deal. That's what grandmas do. Don't sweat it.
Raspberry Lilac... I like it!

its not horrible, but shes going to get made fun of in school. Lilac is a good middle name, Raspberry is a bit much though.

IMO, it's an interesting name.

Your mother-in-law is probably conservative, thus not approving of this unusual name.

Then again, there are more people having unusual names these days. Quote: "Modern names = Unusual names". Your daughter's name definitely sounds good to me though. Sounds better than Kiwi (a fruit).

Raspberry Lilac - yeah, definitely gets a positive feeling.

Better than "Sir One", or "Sir Two" that I heard of in Malaysia.

Haha! I mean no disrespect, but she sounds like what a new Strawberry Shortcake character should be named. You know, there's a good chance your girl herself might hate the name when she grows up a little and gets teased to no end. It's a cute name, but being named after a fruit isn't the best thing for a little girl.

On a more serious note, have you thought about whether your daughter will be taken seriously by people during her adult life?

Well I'm 43 years old, and my mother in-law hated my daughters "Hippy" name in 1983,,,Rhiannon after the Fleetwood Mac tour....I think Raspberry Lilac is sooooooooooooo cool. And my daughter who is now 24 told me to tell you, "Go with it"...It's beautiful, unique, and you love it...That's what counts...In high school, all her friends will probably call her "Razz" for short...I absolutely love it!!! Good luck.. : )

i like the name lilac that is unusual but i think raspberry should be her second name . you wont have to put up with the taunts in school and you wont always be there when the kids are being really cruel. ive heard alot of name calling from kids.. and its not nice but it happens alot ,kids can be so cruel....

Mom in law opinion doen't count. My opinion does not count. Dad's does. And so will your daughter's when she starts getting razzed about it in school. Do her a favor & get to her teachers before she starts school to call her only Lilac. Better yet, change the poor kid's name.

well mother-n-laws never like what daughter-n-laws have picked out , for some crazy reason they hardly like what there sons pick out lololol!!! just kidding
me personally I don't think it would be very good when school starts she may not like that very well but it's you and your spouse so whatever you both like don't let no one change it but you might try getting rid of raspberry ( sorry) You ask the question i want to be truthful!
