I will be having a small get-together which will begin right around dinner time. I will be serving an appetizer of phillo-wrapped asparagus with a roasted red pepper aiolli. What would be a nice accompanyment with it and also a good choice for a dessert item? Thank you!!!

For an accompaninent with your appetizer you want something that is somewhat related and yet distinct. Why not try a salad with lettuce, green onions, bell pepper, and those large red peppers that look like bell peppers? Make a simple salad dressing with lemon, olive oil, and fresh basil. Also serve some hot fresh baguettes. Perhaps some walnuts or pecans as well.

White wine.

You'll want a light dessert as well. Lemon gelato or lemon sorberto would be my choice. You can find recipes on line. To spice things up, you might buy some crystalized ginger to put on top, but that's really not necessary.

Instead of dessert I prefer a cheese and fruit platter. This I place in the centre of the table for the guests to help themselves over coffee or drinks. This part of the meal can often continue until the end of the evening since it creates a great atmosphere for chatting.
