"God, by definition, is that than which a greater cannot be thought. God exists in the understanding. If God exists in the understanding, we could imagine Him to be greater by existing in reality. Therefore, God must exist."

This is the verbal form of Godel's mathematical proof of God's existence. The full mathematical form is on Wiki:

Ignoring other evidence that may confirm or deny God's existence, is this a valid proof? I happen to already know. First person to explain why wins ten points!

You know, if you don't like the question you don't have to respond.

Funny. I show the Christians something that should validate their beliefs and they hate me. Relax, dudes/chicks! Can't you look at it as merely an intellectual exercise?

The proof of God's existence is all around us. To declare that God doesn't exist, a person would have to be omniscient-all knowing- which none of us are. Since it is entirely possible that God exists outside the limits of the limited knowledge of humans, which He does, such a claim is impossible for any human being to make without claiming to be God him/herself. That's because an omniscient being would, by definition, be God. The proof of God's existence is in detailed, specific prophecies which are fulfilled 100 percent of the time and with 100 percent accuracy. The proof of God's existence is the Nation of Israel. The proof of God's existence is the Christian Church. The proof of God's existence is the resurrection of Jesus Christ-where's the body? The proof of God's existence is the presence of the Bible in spite of endless persecution and attempts to extinguish it. Etc, etc, etc, etc.

I disagree.
God exists aside from understanding. Since understanding is reliant on reality (Creation / Physical) and the bounds of understanding do not exceed reality.
But Creation (physical and spiritual) are reliant on Truth for if there is no truth there can be no existence.
Existence itself is proof of God. For the Truth that hold existence together is God. Creation exist therefore God exist.

Note: Someone professing to be wise has already proved himself a fool.

There was actually a story about a professor that didn't believe in God because of all the evil in the world and one student
said, "Does darkness exist?"

The professor said, "Yes it does"

The student said "No, it's the absence of light. Does cold exist?"
Again the professor answered yes.

The student said "No, according to the laws of physics, what we consider is in realtiy the absence of heat." Then he said "Sir, does evil exist?"

The Professor responded of course I have alredy said. We see it everyday. it's in the example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crim and violence everywhere in the world. The manifestastions are nothing else but evil."

The student replied saying, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist on itself.Evil is simply the absence of God. It just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith or love, that exist just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness taht comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

This is my answer on if God exists or not. I believe he does.

There's a logical flaw in there - how could you imagine god to be greater by imaging him into reality if you've already said that no greater thing can be thought of than god? How could you improve god further by making him exist?

The proof of God lies in individual's heart, it is rather hard to describe something belonging to the spiritual world. For those denying God's existence, their hearts must have been blind
folded. Even our blind singer Stevie Wonder could find his way to the God.

I think God is something like Love, if you say i dont believe in love, people say, Just fall in love, however here you have to take pains in reading all the religious books in ther world if you want proof of god, especially hinduism and bhuddism. Listen to people around the world, who believe in god, not just people in your place. Criticism is not bad at all, by the way.

To add the characteristic of existence on to something adds nothing to it. I can imagine a unicorn. So if I put the characteristic of existence on it, does that make it exist. No !

You don't need to have a formula to calculate existance. Rather take heart in the vision that is shared worldwide. It is the idea that makes it work.

Proof of God? If God wanted to know of his existance, he would not have given us faith.
