my lymph nodes in my armpit swelled up while i was overseas for 7 months. i came back and had surgery. the dr told me it was just a reaction to some unknown infection. now, another 9 months later, they are swollen again. what is wrong???

i have government dr. i have fought with them before about understanding that something is wrong. last time i ended up with a broken rib and sinus surgery, because they didnt believe me that i had a really bad cough and sinus infection. they dont like to listen. here are some pills, go away. they cut me open for the biopsy without doing any blood work. i had one follow up a week after surgery and nothing since. i know all army dr are not bad, but alot of them are because they deal with people that are faking issues all the time.

ok the rsults of the first biopsy may showed (non specific reactive hyperplasia)
this does NOT mean there is nothng wrong rather it means there is SOMETHING wrong but we just can not identify the cause.
now they are swollen again? this is really kinda dangerous sign.
(Depending on your age) i will put LYMPHOMA as # 1 diagnosis untill proved otherwise.
you may very well need another biopsy.
go to a good doctor again please.

well first of all don't let any doctor tell you are too young because that is a crock!! i was first diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma which is cancer of the lymph nodes i was only 22 years old. It all started because i had a lymph node in my neck and i had a biopsy on the lymph nodes and they took out 10 of them and all were benine but one and it was cancerous. i have had cancer three different times and every time it comes back it is a lymph node in my armpit or my chest. so my advice to you is don't take no for an answer you get whatever test done that you need to and no your not to young! life's to short and most doctors don't really care its not their life i have learned my lesson because when i first noticed the lump i was treated for mono for 2 months before i convinced them something was wrong I'm a mother of 5 children and i never hesitate a lump better safe than sorry. i hope i didn't scare you i just hate it when docs don't listen i am walking proof that it happens to any one of any age. hope this helps have a good day

Where did you go overseas? Did you get any insect bites or anything rashes? It could be a virus but again it could be some infestation of parasites or worms such as filariasis. You need to have a complete workup, be tested for lyme disease, complete blood work, if those are negative for anything, a cat scan and biopsies, also to check for other tumors, lymphoma is possible but it could be infection or something else too.

I think an internet diagnosis of lymphoma is a bit premature by everyone involved, but you do need to see your doctor and have a complete workup and possibly another biopsy. Your lymph nodes could be swollen for a variety of reasons and yes, one is cancer. Don't be an alarmist and try to stay positive, but keep looking for a definitive answer by your doctors. Good luck.

You really need to get it checked out by a doctor. Change doctors if you have to. It may be nothing. But you need to know for sure.
Check this site to see if you have any other symptoms:

I start with just one swollen Lymph node.
Best wishes to you.
