I was just wondering if any other kids have had this same problem. He has been on breathing treatments for a couple of months and never seem to work. He has gotten 2 chest xrays and they both are fine. But the doctors are always worried with how he sounds. Is there anything else that can be done? Do i just have to hear him at night always coughing (which is new). It is a really bad cough and it sounds like it is hard for him to even get it out. I hate to see him like this. Should i be concerned that the treatments are working? I should mention..he is only 5 months old..and has been diagnosed with bronciolitis in the past..when he was about 2 months old..seems to me that he never got over it

You need to take your son to a pediatric pulmonologist. Also the breathing treatments loosen phlem and allow your son to cough. It is very hard for a baby to cough hard enough(without treatments) to loosen phlem. If he wasn't coughing he could develop a very serious infection from phlem settling in his lungs. Maybe the doctor could give you a cough suppressant for nightime so you both can get some sleep.

I would be going back to the doctor asap. I spent 2 emergency room visits for my daughters asthma when she was about a year old. She has NO signs of it now, at 3. She does take Singulair, especially in the winter. Humidifiers are good. We used an air purifier in her room too. And Pulmicort for immediate needs when an attack started. I would be worried, especially if its 3 times a day for the nebulizer. And its very dangerous. You wont be able to sleep due to WORRY, until you can keep it under control. Does he have dry skin or anything. My daughter had skin issues that went hand in hand with the asthma .. maybe something to watch for. Good luck, I hope it ends as he grows up.

I do not know what kind of medication is being given.
hopefully he is getting a bronchodialitor for medication.
You should not be hearing him at night. Do you have a
steam humidifier in his room?? Has he been tested
for rsv? This is an upper respiratory virus. This virus
causes a bad cough. Perhaps he could have croup
are the coughs barky?? do his lungs sound clear or
do you hear wheezing, or high pitch noises when
he breaths?? He should perhaps see a pediatric pulmonologist

are you doing "blow by treatments" by holding the mask an inch or two from his face? this kind of treatment is completely unaffective and may be why it isn't working. if you're using a mask and it is completely over his mouth and nose then maybe it is the medicine itself that you are using in the nebulizer. or you may not be cleaning it as thoroughly as thought. go to the doctor again and explain your concern..or at least see a pediatric allergist or pulmonologist.

i wish you well :)

Smoke is not the only allergen in the world. Outside pollution along with inside air is enough to "set" me off. It sounds like a residual infection or pre-asthma is going on with him. He needs a functional x-ray instead of the standard ones.
