Communion is the New Testament equivalent of the passover. During the passover celebration the Israelites were looking back to their deliverance from bondage in Egypt and forward to the Messiah, the lamb of God. Today we celebrate communion looking back at Jesus' sacrifice for us when we were delivered from bondage to death and sin and forward to His coming at the end of this age when the Kingdom of God will be established here on earth.
"For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
The bread and the cup are spiritual symbols of Jesus' broken body and shed blood. The notion that anyone ever did or ever does actually eat the flesh or drink the blood of Jesus is totally false. Those people who have been brought up in a religious tradition that promotes this false doctrine like to quote Jesus in this passage.
John 6:53 So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. 56 Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.
When you isolate that text from the rest of what Jesus had to say it seems to say that Jesus is talking about actually engaging in what amounts to cannibalism. But when you look at the whole context of that speech you see that Jesus was speaking of the spiritual truth that when a person believes on his atoning sacrifice that they will receive the gift of eternal life.
John 6:60 When many of his disciples heard it, they said, "This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?" 61 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, "Do you take offense at this? 62 Then what if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is of no avail. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.
Get it? The flesh doesn't do anything, Jesus was talking about spiritual realities. It is like when Jesus made this statement a little further on.
John 7:38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'"
If you isolate that text it looks like people would have a river flowing out of their chest or something. But the author goes on to explain, since Jesus apparently didn't in this case...
39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Catholicism.
At the Last Supper, Jesus said, “Take this bread. It is my body.” Then he said, “Take this and drink. This is my blood. Do this in memory of me.”
Catholics believe this was the First Eucharist, that through some miracle the bread and wine actually became the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
Catholics reenact the Last Supper during every Mass, where God, acting through the priest, changes the bread and wine into the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
This is a great sacrament of thanksgiving and unity of Catholics.
Some of the effects of the Eucharist are:
- increases the communicant's union with the Lord
- forgives his venial sins
- preserves him from grave sins
- strengthens the bonds of charity between the communicant and Christ
- reinforces the unity of the Church as the Mystical Body of Christ.
With love in Christ.

Communion is the outward expression (physically taking into your body) of a symbolic spiritualism (accepting the fact that through the broken body and spilled blood, we receive salvation).
The communion table in the (conservative baptist tradition) portrays the Crucifixion as the pivotal moment in history when God redeems his creation through a final sacrifice. Since the body and blood are spiritually the antidote for sin's curse, the outward taking of communion joins those who believe spiritually that they have been redeemed to God through the death and Resurrection of Yeshua. It is a spiritual act of worship to join together as believers at the communion table and remember The Lord in this way till he comes again.

a cathecism would help you understand better, along with your bible(i am not placing the catechism before the bible in neccessity). there is alot you could write about this but i will only make this point,i forget the passage qoute but i hope you know which one i am reffering to, on the path to damascus two apostles walked with a complete stranger and were sad at the death of their lord, they talked to the stranger who was oblivious to the sad news, they entered a house and proceeded to have supper,at this supper the stranger broke the bread in doing so the true presence of christ was made know to the apostles that walked with him the whole way and yet didn't recognise him-thus communion as celebrated in the catholic church.....interesting how his presence was only made known at the breaking of the bread. hope this helps god bless.
