Hi,
traditionally, Germans eat their main (warm) meal at lunchtime.
This usually consisted of meat, gravy, potatoes and vegetables.
At dinnertime Germans like different kinds of bread, cold cuts, cheese, and so on.
I said 'traditionally' and 'usually', because habits are changing everywhere and, as nowadays very often both parents are working, mealtimes may change as well.

Actually we Germans eat DINNER for lunch, and eat a small lunch like supper in the evening. We take our dinner with us to work or we go out to a restaurant like people do in the US. The difference is that we do not eat a big meal in the evening. Conclusion, we don't put on weight because we go to sleep with full bellies.
