I know tofu is in miso soup, and I like it. So I bought a brick of it. Firm, it say's. Now what. It smells kind of funny and has a weird texture. What can you do with it? I know I've asked people before..... "What does it taste like?" And they said, "Whatever you want it to".
Any ideas??? I know it's healthy for you, it's just so odd looking.

Tofu is soybean curd, I know this sounds gross but it isn't. I practically live off tofu. This is how you can cook the tofu you have.
1. Take the tofu out of the packet and drain out all the water. Use handtowel to blot extra water out.
2. Cut the tofu into strips or pieces about 1/2 inch thick.
3. Preheat a pan and put oil into it.(not to much just coat the bottom)
4. Place the tofu into the pan and let it warm up.
5. Add seasoning. I like soy sauce and cayenne pepper. Any ready make teriyaki sauce is also good. Put the sauce over the tofu. (Make sure to flip the tofu over during this whole process)
6. Let the tofu sit in the pan on low heat until is dries
7. Eat with rice or on top of a salad.

*** For more flavor cut up onion and garlic and let it sautee in a pan with oil and soy sauce before adding your tofu.

A good way to get introduced to tofu is to press it as described above (gotta get the water out!). While my tofu is pressing I like to scramble up an egg in one bowl, and make a mixture of breadcrumbs, ground almonds and herbs in another bowl. When the tofu is pressed I slice it into Chicken McNugget-sized pieces, coat them in the egg and then coat them in the crumb mixture. Lay the pieces on a greased baking sheet and bake in the oven until they're crispy (flipping halfway). I don't use a specific time and temperature, but if I'm in a huge hurry I'll use the broiler (BE CAREFUL!)

You can do an Italian version by using Italian seasoning in your crumb mixture, or do a Southwest version by adding chipotle chili sauce to the egg mixture and "Roasted Red Pepper and Garlic" seasoning to the crumbs.
