For Mathwiz1 - 20 yrs ago formula had sugar and lots of it buddy... u could of been predisposed from what ur Mom ate while pregnant too. And if u play with sugar/ u'll pay 6 ft under... cause your making your kidneys work too hard. U may not die of diabetics but surely from other complications created by U!
****************************************
Just because it runs in your family doesn't mean u automatically get it. Exercise regularly or even just brisk walking daily is good to get moving. Eating sensibly, everyone is telling u stop all... realistically it's very difficult to stop and never eat again pasta let's say.

But if u can control the portion size and if u have to have pasta (whole grain, whole wheat). Many health depts offer nutritionist for low or no cost to help with new way of eating healthy and smarter. Dr. Riesen & Dr. Oz recently were on Oprah show... they have a new book out about diet... it's a realistic way of eating and living.
High Frutose or Corn Syrup and Hydro- Fats are the enemy so to speak. Red Meat is hard to digest so limit the amount of it... it literally has to rot in stomach to go through the digestive process. Sugar, High Fats make for bad eating. Vegetables and some Fruit. Steam broccoli or raw, carrots, spinach, and other veggies. Using butter vs margarine. Very sparingly. Avoid or limit sweets.Popcorn from hot popper air vs. Butter popcorn. Drink water and plenty of it. The more u get rid of sugar the better... but it takes time and patience. You can do it~ u learn to bake foods vs fried foods.

When are you idiots going to learn that the idea that sugar causes diabetes is just an old wives tale?

Eat what ever you want, as long as you keep your weight down you should be fine.

And about the sugar, I got diabetes at the age of 5 months old and I want you people who believe that sugar causes diabetes to tell me, How would it have been possible to have eaten that much sugar when pretty much all I ate was milk or baby formula.

My brother was 11 when he was diagnosed. He was all ways thirsty and one night on the way to get a drink of water he passed out. There wasn't any thing that caused it, it just sort of happened. The best thing to do go see your doctor if you think it may be a possibility.

Control your weight and stick to a realistic excersise routine. Tofu is good, obviously veg and fruit, too much white rice can cause blood sugar to shoot up, all lean meat and no animal fat, garlic and ginger is healthy if you can incorporate them into your recipes, Try not to smoke.

Adapt a diabetic diet (more vegetables, whole grains, less meat and refined sugars). Check out the link below.
