I have my first tournament today and I'm nervous as can be...luckily we dont have to have it completely memorized today. Ok, well the question is for future reference. Can you use self-published work for the interps(speech) part? ex-poetry, drama, humor, duet

This isn't for me, its for my friend. She found a something online that she wanted to do, but she doesnt have a yahoo account and cant get one.

If you officially published it, then yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the judge will think it a reliable source.

Oral Interp is voice acting. Ask the teacher for help with anything you don't understand. That is what a teacher is for. Mostly you just have to read things aloud so as to convey their meaning to the audience. Just like acting.

When I judged interp, original pieces were not permitted. But I think the rules vary from state to state, so you might have to check that. Besides, there are SO many fantastic pieces that you can do -- I even judged one group that did the "Jailhouse Tango" from Chicago -- that I don't know why you'd need to use your own stuff.
