1960's Pot roast, meat loaf, home made bread, spaghetti. Barbecue chicken, potato salad - most dishes were still homemade.
1970's Seemed to be the meat & potatoes era if I remember
More meatloaf, lasagna, spanish rice, stroganogh, pork chops, hamburgers, & of course chicken.
1980's If I recall people started to eat more salads, greens, skinless chicken, Chicken dishes. Rice dishes, backing away from the red meats and being more diet conscience.
1990,s Nacho's, more junk food, hamburger helper and Rice A roni. Less time being spent in the kitchen and more one pan dinners. Meatload suddenly is a Sunday dinner item!

A lot of roasts....basically because women stayed home during that time (were homemakers), the "pride and joy" of each day was what they cooked for dinner. Therefore, their dinners tended to take a while to cook. In addition to roasts, I have heard that stews were very popular as were pot pies.

It depends on the locality.
I grew up in the midwest.
- Lots of beef - roasts, hamburger(meatloaf usually), steaks(poteerhouse, sirloin)
- Pork chops, bacon
-bratwurst, smoked sausage, hot dogs
- fish as we caught them-perch, lake trout, salmon, lake smelt
- occasionally venison as it was harvested
- pasta or chili mac once a week.
- homemade soup a few times a year (pea, or vegetable usually)
usually potatoes with each mal, usually veeggie (corn, carrots, peas, beans)
bread or rolls
breakfast was cereal usually, weekends were bacon/eggs/toast or pancakes. waffles occasionally
nt much eating out, occasionally McDonalds for a treat, later Wendys or Burger wop. I liked White Castle in CHicago.
