My boyfriend was eating and he got something stuck in his throat.. and it's not going down. He can breathe and talk just fine, it's just uncomfortable for him and it hurts every once in a while. It's been like this for probably 2 hours now. He feels like it's getting better and everything.. but.. it's still not gone. He's been throwing up every 5-10mins or so... mostly mucus.. He says it feels like it's just producing a lot of mucus where the food is stuck in his throat.. What could this be?? (DONT say go to a doctor..if he feels it's THAT bad and necessary, he will.)

Even though he is breathing and able to speak it's possible that the food is still stuck & his body is trying to push is out so it doesn't go into his lungs. Or it's possible the muscles around his trachea (wind pipe) are spasming causing him to cough. As for the vomiting it's possible the food is stuck in the esophagus and this is the body's way of trying to dislodge it. Even though he is breathing if this continues he should see a doctor because if the food stays lodged for too long it can cause tissue damage wherever it is stuck. Keep a close eye on him & if he starts having trouble breathing seek medical attention immediatly.

What was he eating? If we're talking about a chicken bone might want to get that removed by a doctor, if it was a soft-food item this should resolve on it's own. If he can talk or make sounds his airway is not occluded. Vomiting is not a good sign, but it could be due to his gag reflex being stimulated. If he becomes blue, passes out, or is extremely anxious time to call 911.

The mucous is saliva that he is overproducing because his swallowing is impeded. I have a hiatal hernia that causes me to do this if I swallow something that is a little to large or hard. It will become lodged in my windpipe and I have difficulty breathing and swallowing. I have actually lost consciousness and had to be taken to the hospital.

could be one of several things.
hiedal hernia/ a small [trap] or bend in the esophagus.
stomach ulcer or npossibly cancer.
what was he eating when it got hung in his throat?

it sounds like to me that he has a closing off of the esophagus. /the tube that goes to the stomach.
an x-ray will tell you what the problem is.
