Sorry to offend anyone who had or has an STD! I was talking over this subject with my 19 year old niece and wanted some feedback she could read about STDs and their symptoms in a way she could understand.

I think out of all the STD's (gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomonas, HIV, Hepatitis B and C, lymphgranlum venereum, syphilis, herpes, bacterial vaginosis--although there is still debates as to wether this is an std or not) I would probably chose chlamydia because it is very easily killed by antibiotics. The symptoms from it are not as bad as gonorrhea, ie. not the extreme burning with urination and less discharge but some people do not show any symptoms and harbor it for long periods. Over time, the drawback is that it can cause scarring in the reproductive organs causing sterility in men and infertility in women not to mention pelvic inflammatory disease, a serious superinfection which requires hospitalization a lot of times. Gonorrhea burns like hell. Syphilis has three stages: early, latent and neurosyphilis. If you catch it in time, you can treat it and its gone. However since there are times that no symptoms will show, over years, it will develop into neurosyphilis and cause neurological problems including dementia, mental illness. history has shown that Napolean had neurosyphilis and went crazy. HIV, Hepatitis, and herpes you pretty much have forever and there is no cure for any of them. Depending on the hepatitis form, they will go away, but some will go on to develop chronic active hepatitis and cause liver failure and death. The only thing that can be done at that point is a liver transplant but since the virus is in your body forever, eventually the new liver will get reinfected and break down again. Trichomonas is easily treated with four pills taken at once and its gone, but can be painful.and the side effects of flagyl taken at 2000 mg all at once (four pills) reeks havoc on your stomach. Drink one drop of alcohol and you may get violently ill (it works the same way antabuse dose in getting people to stop drinking alcohol. Lymphgranulum venereum is rarely seen in the United States.
But truthfully, it is better not to have any STD's. Because a lot of them wont show symptoms, you can go on for years not knowing you have it, passing it on to others (this is why we cannot eradicate std's because of the passage to others without symptoms) and the sequelae are sterility, miscarriages, infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease and ectopic or tubal pregancies.
I hope this helped answer your question.
STAY SAFE!!! Practice safer sex with 100% condom use, get tested for HIV once a year, women when you get your pap tests, ask for a chlamydia and gonorrhea DNA swab. Also both sexes ask for an RPR blood test (syphilis test).
To your health,
Warren Shaffer, M.D.

If I had to have one, it'd be chlamydia. It's one of the few STDs that won't actually kill you after a long time, and very rarely has permanent side effects. It can be cured in one day with a superpill, or an antibiotic drink about the size of a shotglass.

From what I have been told about std's. It's not usually just one by itself. Usually there is at least another. It's a nasty situation. I just wish people would be faithful to each other. I wish young people would stay out of bed.

I do not understand why you HAD to have one STD! Nevertheless, for the sake of discussion, it is best to get a 'minor STD' like scabies or candidosis as these are treatable. Chancroid is another choice! A viral STD would be the nightmare.

I hope you do not have to get any of these. Take care!

Ureaplasma Urealyticum

Not very pathogenic...and easily treatable with some azithromycin.
