im waiting on test results to find out if i have a heart problem and untill now i always thought most of the funny stuff my heart does was sorta normal. for instance, when your like laying in bed or sitting quietly can you feel your heart beating in your chest, i mean with out your hands to feel it? does it ever feel like your heart is beating to slowly and to hard like after climbing stairs or getting up quickly? are some people just more aware of their hearts beating?

Most people can't feel the beating of their heart unless it is racing or really irregular. Some people can. My husband is one of those who can feel his heart beating almost all the time no matter what he is doing. He can tell whether it is beating slowly, fast or irregular. He can even count his heart rate without a stethoscope or without palpating an artery. When he exercises he just stands or sits still for a few seconds to check what his heart rate is. Lately he has had some problems with a really erratic heart rhythm and he felt it. He went to the doctor, they did an EKG and he was in atrial fibrillation. My husband feels that it is annoying at times that he can feel it so easily; now he worries about every irregular beat. It is normal to have some irregular beats as long as they don't get to frequent.

It isn't abnormal to be able to feel your heart beating, but if it isn't regular it is good that you are having it checked out.

Good luck with your tests.

Ideally, we dont feel the beating of our hearts except for situtations where our Sympathetic Nervous System is active like during fires, when we are on our first dates, when we fear something, when we are tired after running or engaging in an acitivity.
However if we arent anxious and we feel the beating of our heart even at rest, then it might be something else. Coffee drinkers also have palpitations especially those who drink much. Hyperthyroidism usually presents with tachycardia or faster heart rate than normal. Anemics also feel tachycardia. Tachycardia is having a heart rate of more than 100. Normal heart rate is 60-100. Lower than 60 is bradycardia. Heart conditions such as Atrial Fibrillation has also has fast heart rates.
If you always feel these, then you should consult your doctor. An ecg will be done on you to see if your heart is normal!
