I'm going to make Tandoori chicken and just wanted your opinion on a kind of finishing sauce that would taste good with Tandoori.

Cucumber raita

with some type of flat bread like nan, roti, or pita bread, or rice if you prefer.
also, serve the chicken with cooked sliced onion and green pepper and also fresh lemon slices to squeeze over it.

Yes Emm chutneys are also great with tandoori dishes. I simply buy my chutneys. I like palak's sweet mango chutney.

Make the spiced yogurt called Riatia.

Using plain but not NON-FAT yogurt.

Mix into about a half cup of yogurt -

1/4 m teaspoon coriander powder

" Cumin powder
" Salt
1/8 " Cayenne Powder


Chop a cucumber into small pieces and mix in.
If you have firm tomatoes you can also make a cucumber and tomato riatia, I'd suggest upping the spice amount though so the tomato's don't overpower the yogurt.
If you want to make it more spicy then go ahead but just beware that a little too much salt will make it taste really salty. IF that happens just add more yogurt.

In India Tandoori Chicken is served with Mint Coriander Dip

Heres the recipe:

1 cup fresh mint leaves, well rinsed and tightly packed

1 cup cilantro leaves, as above

2 cloves garlic

1/4 cup onion, chopped

salt, to taste

2 Tablespoons fresh lime juice

1/2 cup plain yogurt

Blend all ingredients in a blender.

MINT AND CORIANDER chutney goes great with tandoori chicken.

2 cups chopped mint (phudina) leaves
1 cup chopped coriander
1 large onion, sliced
juice of 1 to 2 lemons
1 teaspoon sugar
4 to 6 green chillies
salt to taste

Combine all the ingredients and grind to a smooth paste in a blender using very little water.

Tandoori tastes well with Corriander chutney and raw onions... get some from a patel shop if you dont have material handy... ummmmm.... no... cant think of any thing else which will compliment it... Enjoy... this really makes me hungry.... :)

Yogurt Cilantro Sauce

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
2 cups plain yogurt
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
2 tablespoons minced fresh garlic
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 tablespoon honey
salt
freshly ground white pepper -- to taste

In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients and mix to blend. Season to taste
with salt and pepper. May be made one day ahead, covered and stored in the
refrigerator.

i make my own sauce, a cup of yoghurt, squeeze half a lemon, add 1tbsp of mayo, white pepper powder and sprinkle dried parsley.

its mild so it works well with tandoori chicken.
