People make the party good. If you have a good mix of people then it should be fine. Have some good food and music!

Here's an old party game. Tape (or pin) a piece of paper to the back of each guest, as they arrive, with a person, place or thing written on the paper. The guest can ask the other people questions for clues to guess the answer on the paper. ( they can't ask what is written.) The first one to guess correctly, wins a small door prize. This also gets people who don't have much in common, to chat and have a good time.

I had a recylce party. the people had to bring a gift that was not newly bought from the store, unless it was the Goodwill.

We played a game of "Make a Trophy." I had prepared 4 boxes (each about the same) with recycled items in them (like old meat trays, egg cartons, cornflakes packages, tin foil, scotch tape, scissors, brown bags, old toilet roll middles, you get the picture)

Each team of 4 or 5 people got a box and the timer started. 10 mins is enough. The goal: to make this trophy for everyone else to admire. One year it was "Make a Castle". Very ingenious some of them were, with moats and drawbridges. Always somone takes the "lead" without you telling who it should be. Gets people talking and doing. - better than getting sloshed~!!!

Good music, maybe a bit louder than necessary... not mellow, boring lvoe songs, but some jukey, shake your groove thang tunes! Have places where ppl can sit and chat, but also get up and move around. Often how your furniture is arranged for every day at home is NOT that great for party flow, so move things around for the party. Good food, plenty of it, and have a glass or two of wine before folks start showing up! Your guests will only be relaxed and enjoy themselves if YOU do, too!

Have plenty of munchies and drinkies!
Good music, and a good MIX of people help a lot.
Have some games to play, like Taboo, Win lose or Draw, Balderdash, Trivial Pursuit, or even Twister!!

Circulate, and make everyone feel at home, introduce those who don't know each other.

I wish you luck & fun!

Plan, plan, plan. Think through the whole party - do you have enough ice, glasses, food? Next - try to do as much as you can before the party - so that you can relax and enjoy yourself instead of staying in the kitchen the whole night.
