135 is ok, they shouldn't put you on medicine for that. goal is <120 fasting, and <160 a couple hours after eating. the HbA1C level is usually only checked in patients that are on medications, to check their effectiveness. tell you doctor you numbers, continue to monitor your glucose, eat healthy, exercise. i doubt your doctor would being medications at a glucose of 135, but talk with him about it.

My husband and I are both diabtetics and I have several family members who are also diabetics. To be honest, I'm quite surprised that a doctor would consider telling you that you need Glucophage with the levels you've stated here. This medication is one that both my husband and sister take and its' purpose is to control/bring down high levels of blood sugar which, quite frankly from what you've stated on here you don't really have. My husband's levels before he was put on this medicine were running in the 300's and sometimes a little higher. Glucophage keeps it down in the 120 range before meals and 135-150 after meals, depending on what he eats and drinks.
You should have a in depth heart-to-heart with your physician, as to why he/she wants you on this medicine because clearly from what you state on here your levels do not require it. Maybe consider getting a second opinion. Seriously, while Glucophage works well to maintain good levels after they've been so high, there are serious and unpleasant side effects as a result of taking it and that's something to take into consideration before starting such a medication, especially if you don't really need it.

well the diabetic sugar levels shouldn't get over 130 so, if you cant regulate you levels by food and and exercise then you may need to contact your Dr. to schedule you for an appointment to get started on the glucophage. you don't want to risk having long term damage to your body due to bad blood sugar control.

Yes. You are hyperglycemic and your blood sugar needs to be controlled.
If you are willing to go on a diabetic diet and exercise daily your doctor will be able to take you off the medication down the road. But if you don't want to eat right and exercise, medication is inevitable.

Your fasting blood sugar is only part of the equation.... you don't say what it is 2 hrs after eating. Find out what your A1c is- the 3 month average of your blood sugar- that will give you the big picture. But I agree with others who said to consult your doc before you drop any meds.
