Main Entry: 1scant
Pronunciation: 'skant
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Old Norse skamt, neuter of skammr short
2 a : barely or scarcely sufficient; especially : not quite coming up to a stated measure

For example: a scant teaspoon of an ingredient would be less than a teaspoonful as opposed to a level teaspoon

"scant" on measure of anything means go just below the measure line. scant 3/4 means don't worry if the spoon isn't level full, it can be a little less. NO!! I do not have nor have I ever had an 1/8 spoon. I will continue to measure in my hand, And I bet my measuring is closer to real than yours ever will be. You will grow up to be a food technician!!
