I had been using Norton before but this past year I've only used AVG, SpyBot, AdaWare but when I added Verizon, they had me remove it and use theirs.....now I've get viruses and grayware.

Yesterday I installed Norton Security Suite 2006 and now my machine is creeping and crawling very slow and don't know what to do to speed it up.

I can click on start, go to programs, and it'll take a minute for programs to open up.....Help me.

P.S. In 2004 I used Norton Antivirus and never had a problem with viruses or spyware.

I think the Security Suite 2006 must be a resource hog.

I deleted Verizon's Protection software, deleted the new install of Norton Internet Security 2006, ran disk clean up, deleted cookies, deleted temp files and history, defraged my HDD, and re-installed Norton IS 2006. Runs like a new computer now. Thanks to all. I believe the conflicts between the Verizon protection software and the Norton IS software was causing my problem.

1. Replace it with a real computer.

2. But before you do that, try running disk cleanup utilities, defragment your hard drive and use a registry cleanup tool. If that doesn't speed it up the go back to step one.

I've been running Norton Internet Security 2004 for over 2 years and have never had a speed problem due to it. Of course I know how to monitor system resources to determine which programs are resource hogs. Someone who doesn't know how to do this will blame the program before trying to determine the real cause. If the above suggestions don't help try going to each program providers web site.... Symantec.com and then Microsoft/support. These both have instructions on things you can do to bring your computer back up to speed.

did you uninstall the verizon ?
you can't run 2 anti-virus programs on a computer

the only time I encountered a problem with norton's full version was with my old computer - it couldn't handle all the "add-on's" so I had to get just an anti-virus software for it

check to see if your computer is compatible for all the perks of the norton's 2006
might want to check 'n compare the differences with the 2004 and 2006 versions
and take off whatever add-ons the 2006 has that the 2004 didn't have

So, you've been using Norton you say? I have that on a computer of mine, and it works fine, but it is a windows 98.

XP's tend to run slower with Norton, and I reccomend getting McAfee instead.

It doesn't take as much recources, and it blocks viruses incredibly!

I have gotten absolutely no viruses while using it on my laptop.

In summing it up... I reccomend getting off Norton and getting on McAfee.

Working with a slow computer can be time consuming as programs/ applications take a long time to start. This problem is more pronounced in computers which have been used for 6 or more months. More information at http://fixit.in/slowcomputer.html
