Tonight is the night of the biggest party on the O.C's social calendar but I have a bad throat/lung infection that makes my voice sound different and I have a wheezing cough. I don't want to not go as everyone is going but I don't want to go if I feel this bad as it will be a wasted night. Firstly, I don't smoke. When I cough or laugh I double over holding my lungs. What's going on and should I go to this party or stay at home?

You know the answer - it is clearly stated in your question - clearly you should not go. Are you going to listen to yourself - and your lungs? You are not likely to be a significant risk of contagion to others - but - your cough will be markedly increased by exposure to cigarette smoke. In addition - rest is essential to recovery from an illness. Party tonight and you will suffer tomorrow - and you may miss time from work (and money) on Monday. Your body is talking to you.

Have someone wheel you there on a gurney with an IV in your arm and a respirator cup over your nose and mouth. You'll be the talk of the party and won't have to say a word yourself!

why not just make an appearance. Exposing your self to smoke and other toxins could make your infection worse and you could expose others to infection. If you only stay a short period of time, you sholud be alright.
