Since my mom and I are vegetarians, does anyone know of a good turkey substitute? Thank you!

Quorn. With mushroom gravy. Yum! The brand is Quorn, and they make other fake meats too.

It's not vegan though, just vegetarian. But I think I'll break being vegan for Thanksgiving.

I found that Tofurkey tasted really bad, Quorn is the best substitute I have found.

Well, here's what I'm gonna try. :) For Xmas last year, I got the Yves Veggie Ham slices (it's like lunchmeat). I unwrapped it, and left the slices together, placed in a baking dish, put some glaze on it and cooked it for about 20min. It was quite good... tasted almost as good as ham.

So this year... I'm going to attempt the same thing using the Yves Veggie Turkey slices. Figure I"ll throw some "turkey" spices on it (maybe garlic salt, paprika, thyme, etc?) and bake it.

Another option is Quorn Naked Cutlets. They look/taste like boneless chicken breast, and they are able to be cooked in a variety of ways (which is typically not true of meat substitutes).

Might try "experimenting" with a few things before next week... so you don't end up going "eeeww... this isn't as good as I thought it would be". :)

The PETA website has some great tips for Thanksgiving feasts. The Tofurky brand (and others) make fake turkey and other yummy stuff; I got a Thanksgiving feast dinner from Tofurky at Whole Foods that has stuffed "turkey", dumplings, and other Thanksgiving food. I hear they're pretty good. Here's a link that might give you some ideas: http://www.goveg.com/f-tofurky_contest.asp. Good luck and enjoy!

My family has several vegetarians, my sister and i usually make the feast together. We make sure to make plenty of yummy side dishes. mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffed zucchini, stuffing that's cooked separate from the turkey, cranberry sauce, lots of pies. etc etc. the vegetarians in the family are usually quite satisified and everyone gets equally stuffed and moans and groans for hours afterwards.
This seems to work out better than so called "substitutes" which are usually more of a disappointment and come out kind of weird. TOFURKEY, anyone!?!!?!!!!

Don't try to substitute anything for turkey.

Between yams, mashed potatos with a nice gravy (before I get a lot of boos you don't need meat of any kind to make a nice gravy, IE pepper gravy), dressing, string bean casserole, steamed vegatable, pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie, nuts, fruit, etc. You won't have room for turkey.

a good substitute for a turkey would maby be (well lets get creative) and make it the same as thanksgiving.you could make a turkey structure or by a plastic turkey at target, walmart, michales,jo anns. then once you have a plastic turkey make a salad and fill the plastic turkey with the thanksgiving salad then it will still feel like thanksgiving because you'll still have a turkey on the table

If you live near a Whole Foods Market you can enjoy a complete vegan meal for 19.99 per person. It includes:

Vegan holiday roast stuffed with wild rice and dried cranberries
Green beans with almonds
Pumpkin corn chowder (dairy free)
Vegan pecan tart.

They also have many tofu items that you can prepare yourself.

Happy Thanksgiving

i definitely definitely suggest Quorn's Turk'y Roast.. I get it at Whole Foods. I can't taste the difference between it and real turkey. Anyone i know who's tried it prefers it over Tofurky
