I'd have to agree with mtrummn or whatever the last post's screen name is. I was born with a cardiac condition as was my twin brother. (It claimed his life the day after our first birthday..I wasn't suppose to make it past age 2 but I guess I live to defy the medical odds/expectancy of my condition)
Back to the subject....part of my condition requires that I take both Potassium and Magnesium supplements as I also have a hereditary condition which causes critically low electrolytes. All of my physicians have informed me that both Potassium and Magnesium are necessary as they control/regulate the rhythm of the heart. (they are also necessary with proper muscle and neurological function in certain degrees as well. Considering the fact that the heart is basically a muscle this would seem appropriate as well!)
When my potassium and magnesium levels are low I can feel the arrythmias which are but one of my condtions related to my diagnosis. So I would have to say that these are the two MOST important electrolytes necessary for the heart.

Maintain the heart rate at a constant level and be able to meet the changing demand of the body ((significance: sinus tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmias may result if the conducting node is not functioning)) Make sure the heart chambers (left n right ventricles; left n right atrium) contract (depolarized) at the same time
