weaning my mom off the ventilater she has a trach in what will they do next put a box in?

They will keep the Trach tube in her throat...and she will be able to breath through it. When she is better, she can put her finger over the opening and be able to talk (with the trach still in). If they determine that she no longer needs the trach, they will remove it and the hole will eventfully grow closed. The hospital staff will teach you and your family how to care for it, if they think she will need it to continue to breathe. Dont get discouraged if they try to wean her off the vent and she doesn't do well the first time...numerous people have trouble coming off a vent.

That depends on why she has a trache in the first place. If it was temporary (because of an accident) and she can now breathe on her own, I would imagine that they will eventually remove the trache completely and close it. To be honest,I am not sure what you mean by a box (permanent trache maybe?), I imagine they will leave it permanent if she has something like throat cancer, or high paralysis. I hope that is not the case. Good Luck
