ALL people who are sexually active should be in the habit of routine STD tests. If more people adopted a safe, responsible attitude towards getting screened, there'd be a whole lot less to feel dirty about, and there'd be fewer infections, too.
No, I haven't had gonorrhea not chlamydia, but as a health professional and a person who values personal responsibility, I get tested at least annually, or every 6 months if I have been in more than one relationship.
Gonorrhea (Neisseria gonnorheae, abbr. NG) and chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis, abbr. CT) are both bacterial infections spread by sexual fluids. If you engage in sexual activity (including oral sex!) without using a condom, you run the risk of getting or giving the infection. Most of the time, people with NG and CT never have symptoms. So they pass the infection silently. If you do have symptoms, they will often consist of unusual discharge, burning urination, fever and/or pelvic pain. If you get NG or CT in your THROAT from oral sex, it can feel like a bad sore throat.
NG and CT are easy to cure. You just take the right antibiotics. But you MUST abstain from sex until treatment is finished. Also, if you have the infection, your partner should get tested and treated, too. Otherwise, you can continue to pass the infection back and forth between you and your partner.
NG and CT can cause infertility in women. These infections can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, which causes scar tissue to clog up the reproductive tract, making it difficult to have babies. So it's super-important for all sexually active women to prevent the disease by always using condoms (even with long term partners!) and by getting tested.

Menorrhagia
Menorrhagia is recurrently heavy bleeding during menstruation.
About a third of women describe their periods as heavy. The average blood loss during menstruation is typically about 40ml. With menorrhagia the loss is 80ml or more.
Women with menorrhagia may have to use double sanitary protection - towels and tampons - and the heavy bleeding may stop them from doing normal activities because of flooding through clothes, for example.
In most cases no cause can be found. However, there may be an underlying cause such as endometriosis or fibroids.
It is important to investigate the bleeding and check that it is not due to something more sinister like cancer of the uterus or cervix.
The treatment depends on the cause. If there is no underlying problem that needs treating, the bleeding can often be reduced with non-hormonal tablets (tranexamic acid), oral contraceptives or by fitting a contraceptive coil into the womb.
If these do not work, a woman might want to consider surgery to remove the uterus completely or have the womb lining stripped.
She may also need to take iron or folic acid supplements if the blood loss has made her anaemic.
Do you mean "Gonorrhea and Chlamydia"?
Please see the webpages for more details on STDs.
