My boyfriend went in for his physical to wrestle and the doctor has a theory that he has a heart condition, either that his heart is too big or there's something else wrong with it. he says it's not a big deal but i'm scared, what should i do? he also took a test and he came back positive for proteinuria, a condition where your kidneys send too much protein back into your body...does anyone know much about all this, i'd really like it if someone could reasure me that everything will be fine...

Sarcoidosis (often affects women but not exclusively), amyloidosis, and diabetes come to mind as being possible sources of both proteinuria and cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart) accounting for both findings.

Before you get too upset, a vigorous physical work out could also produce proteinuria (the kidney passing too much protien through causing it to show up in the urine.) and the heart can enlarge from naturally being in good condition. The question is whether these findings are a disease process or just incidental findings. Additional testing can isolate the diagnostic possibilities and no doctor would let those possible diagnoses go left uncovered. There are so many other things that could potentially and independently cause either proteinuria or an enlarged heart that I would not hazard a guess as to all of them. (Easily over 100 things)

Wait for the doctor to finish his testing and make a diagnosis - or determine that no diagnosis needs to be made. No one can possibly decide if this is a big deal or not until more is known. Good luck.

If his doctor actually said that he has a theory and didn't follow thru with tests, it's time to find another doctor. Good Luck!!!!

Let him worry about it. Seriously. He wouldn't want you to worry over him.
