I just had a baby 12 weeks ago and have noticed that since his birth my scalp has been very itchy. I usually wash my hair every other day, if not every day. I have been stealing my hubbies Head and Shoulders shampoo but haven't noticed any change. Also it feels like I have the odd pimple on my head.

Any ideas on what it could be?? I don't have a regular hairdresser that I could ask.

Also, I colour my hair, usually every 4-5 weeks or so. I last coloured it 5 weeks ago.

Please help!!!! It's driving me crazy and I must look funny always scratching my head!!

P.S. And NO it is not lice - I have checked!

On Tuesday, I have an appointment with a hairstylist I've been to before.
(I stopped going to her because it was more convenient to go to a salon close to work but now that I'm on mat leave, she's closer to home and I have the time to go back to her!! yay!).
I haven't had my hair cut since before the baby and am definitely overdue! Hopefully she can give me some insight as to what is wrong with my head and maybe I'll even leave with some better products than what I've been using.
Wish me luck!

ok first of all omg throw out that head and shoulders shampoo, i am a licensed hair dresser and if you take the ingredients from head and shoulders and the ingredients from your carpet shampoo they almost mach. Head and shoulders does not take away dandruff but puts a thick coat of wax on the persons scalp so it looks like the flakes are gone, you start washing with normal shampoo and poof there back because the normal shampoo washes away the wax from the head and shoulders. What you and your husband both need is a shampoo and conditioner that has menthol in it like AG or american crew for him. The menthol in the shampoo and conditioner stimulates the blood flow to the scalp which the promotes better skin the ichiness will evaporate almost instantly from using this and your hubbys flakes will dissapear too from the moisture from this stuff its great try and u will c

People have no idea what pregnancy can do to a woman's hair and skin!

I don't think you need to be alarmed, this problem is most likely just the result of your ever-changing hormones.

Try Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo and Conditioner. (see here: http://www.paulmitchell.com/site/subpage.asp?section=2,10,32 ) It will tingle wonderfully, and even add to the experience with some aromatherapy too. Don't use it everyday, try it maybe three times a week, and in between, use a regular moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

Stay away from that head and shoulders or any of the "dandruff" shampoos you can buy at the grocery store. They will not help, and they'll probably make it worse.

The "pimple" feeling you have is probably a result of the dry scalp, and scratching your head can cause sores. If you have to scratch, try rubbing hard with the pads of your fingertips rather than your fingernails.

I wouldn't panic, and you probably don't need to see the doctor unless the problem gets significantly worse.

By the way, DO NOT color your hair if you have any sores on your scalp. You could be in for some major pain and even infection if you do. Wait until the problem clears up before you put ANY chemicals on your scalp.

I hope this helps. Congrats on your baby, and good luck!

It is possible that you are washing your hair too much! With all the changes your body recently underwent, it is possible.
Try not washing your hair for a cpl of days...I know it's sounds wrong, but wear a hat or use talk powder to hide the dirt.
The shampoo is probably drying out your scalp...
another possibility is that when you wash your hair...perhaps you're not rinsing out all the shampoo or all the conditioner...this happens especially w/ long hair. Maybe rinse a cpl of seconds longer than usual.
Another possibility is that you got too much sun...your scalp got burnt and now it's itching as it repairs itself. If this is the case...you're probably just going to have to stop scratching and it will go away.
Good Luck!

If you have pimples on your scalp, it might be because your scalp has become extra oily. Washing your hair every other day is not enough now, you have to wash it everyday. I don't know if Head and Shoulders is good for daily use. Try using a milder shampoo for normal hair or oily hair. Use your Head and Shoulders only twice a week.

Good Luck!

Maybe a dry scalp? Some causes are smoking, a poor diet, allergies, stress, dry air sometimes caused by air conditioning or central heating. Pollution can also sometimes play a role.

Well, oily foods such as bananas and avocados work wonders as a natural remedy for dry scalp. These foods actually help nourish and moisturize the area.

Also, almond oil and jojoba oil are also very hydrating.

Have you noticed any hair falling out? After my babies, my hair fell out so much I saw a dr who said it's normal, and then when new hair starts to grow it really itches! If it's this, there's very little you can do but wait for it to grow a little longer!

I think there is a brand of shampoo just for itchy scalp...call T-Gell or something like that....
I have heard it does not smell that good....but have never used it myself...ask your local pharmacist and he/she should be able to help you...Good Luck!!!
