A couple of years ago I decided instead of the traditional Christmas dinner, I had an Italian themed dinner. The Menu:
Spaghetti and Meatballs
Lasagna/with meat sauce
Veal Parmesan
Spinach/with mozzarella cheese baked on top
Tossed Salad
Texas Toast
It was very delicious. Take a chance do something different!!! You won't regret it!!!
Oh, I forgot!!! For dessert I had cherry cheesecake and sweet potato pie.

Anytime a family sits down together at the dinner table it's a special occasion and a rare one at that. Make it special, a time they'll remember. The best food you can get and all the fixings. Splurge. Maybe Roast Goose or Duck, perhaps Prime Rib. If your tired of mashed potatoes try Risotto. Keep in mind though that your family has been dining on Turkey and stuffing for many years, they might just be looking forward to it. Be thankful that your all together, give them what makes them happy.

perhaps you should think about the real meaning of thanksgiving and what it is all about.
Then you can open a can of tomato soup and,
EnjooooooOOOOOOooooooy!.
Then when to rest of the clan pulls out the Turkey and the dressing and the mashed potatoes and the sweet potatoes and the green beans and the home made bisquits and the cranberries and then sops it all with that good ole homemade turkey gravy and then all of the desserts that is served at thanksgiving time.
When all that drifts right up your ole shnozzola you might look down deep into your lonely bowl of Tomato soup and say to your self; SELF!! WHY O WHY AM I DOIN THIS.

Why not make stuffed Rock Cornish Game Hens. They are delicious and you can stuff them any way you like and also serve up with some of the unique side dishs being reported here and you will have a great but different T-Day meal. Allow at least two hens per person and possbly three if everyone has a huge appetite. Or, you could try quail but then allow at least four or five quail per person since they are very small.

As was said by somebody else earlier here, Thanksgiving is all-american. You have your traditions and all: turkey, pies, stuffing...
But what the heck. If you want something different and don't go with the crowd like a sheep, try anything exotic or from other countries. Try european, asian, australian, african, traditional enchiladas, soups. Is up to you to make a delicious meal and different.

Get a recipe for Homemade Cranberry relish to add to it. Its REALLY easy to make and taste great. You can make it days in advance.
Make some great mashed potatoes by adding sour cream, butter, milk, cream cheese and horseradish.
Add celery and golden raisins or chopped apple to your stuffing
Toss a great salad to go with it.
Cook come acorn squash with butter and brown sugar
I always serve Pillsbury crescent rolls fresh out of the oven
Steam some broccoli or have a green-bean casserole.
There is a really great sweet potato casserole recipe you can find on line using orange juice.
I have gone to people's houses where they just have a few basic dishes and I end up missing a few of the items we make at home to really dress up the meal. None of them take much longer to do but it really adds something.

Try a new casserole ...... You will need 4 cans of cooked carrots drian those. 1 onion diced 4 green onions diced (all of it the green stem too) saute the onion in butter. Potatoe chips crushes well. Shredded velveta cheese a couple bags. durkees onions.
Next layer it in a casserole ..... carrots, onion, chips, cheese. Keep layering it like a lasagna ending with the cheese and bake at 325 till good and melted together. Top with durkees onion and bake till they are brown. This is a really good casserole even if you dont like cooked carrots like me. It also is great to make the next day and add left over turkey to the layers. Enjoy!!

Thanksgiving is traditionally North-American, celebrated by stuffing ourselves full of turkey, stuffing and cranberries. Lately there have been culinary trends toward a more ethnic or "themed" menu. Even if you don't re-do your entire menu, putting out some candied pumpkin or starting the meal with some pumpkin chorizo soup may bring some unexpected conversation to your meal. Here are some ideas for a delicious Thanksgiving!
1) Candied Pumpkin instead of Yams
This candied pumpkin makes a great alternative to your usual yams dish. It is sweetened with piloncillo (or brown sugar) and flavored with oranges and cinnamon.
2) Bolillos instead of Dinner Rolls
While heating up a bunch of pre-made rolls may seem easy, these delicious bolillos are very simple to make and will taste much better fresh out of the oven than pre-packaged rolls. They are crusty on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside.
3) Pumpkin Soup as a unique Appetizer
Serve up this wonderful creamy soup as a starter or as part of the meal itself. Onion and Mexican chorizo add flavor to this colorful soup.
4) Chilied Corn instead of Green Bean Casserole
When you need a change from that green-bean casserole, add this recipe to your Thanksgiving menu for a bold, spicy flavor. Seasoned corn with roasted chiles and fresh serrano chiles will perk up everyones taste buds.
5) Mango Salsa instead of Cranberry Relish
Add some salsa to the table for something new. This sweet, mango version is perfectly paired with the mild flavors of turkey. Skip over the cranberry relish and head for the tropical flavors of this tasty fruit.
6) Capirotada instead of Pie
This sweet dessert made with raisins, pecans, apples and orange zest combines the flavors of fall into one delicious dish. Who needs pumpkin pie?

Okay you could try a prime rib with a basic garlic rub. Homemade cheesy scalloped potatoes (very simple to make). Creamed corn, spring mix salad, croissants, an espignole sauce, and of course a homemade bread pudding with a wild turkey carmel sauce.
