It completes the circuit so the charge can run through it

Posative Electrons + and Negative Electrons - are used to complete a Circuit. These Poles are needed to make the battery so that it can have a Power Output, or Discharge.
These Poles are like the Poles of any Magnetic or Electric field. They have what we assing or understand as a + and a - pole. There are Polar Opposites and there are Polar Attractions. +-

because a battery is a form for generating electricity. electricity = the flow of electrons. in order to get those electrons moving, you need to have different charges.
