Well, the first two answers are obviously misinformed. The best advice I can give you is to get Patrick Quillin's book "The Diabetes Improvement Program". I'm sure glad I did. For a small book, it's packed with useful information on foods and supplements that will help you control your blood sugar. I'm guessing you're type 2 from your age, so that means with diet, exercise, and weight control, you can probably get off any medication you might be on. Read my diabetes info page for lots of helpful tips and links...

Fruits, Veggies, Lean Meat
Brown Rice, Wheat Pasta, Whole Wheat bread (low carb type), and occasional Sweet Potato
Nothing white (rice, bread, pasta, potatoe, or heavily processed foods). No baby carrots or lima beans as they raise your blood sugar also.
Use a spread like Smart Control as a butter substitute and use olive oil or similar cooking spray to saute food.
If you're at normal weight then eat no more then 60 grams of carbs per meal.
An occasional glass of wine if fine for diabetics.

Go take a look at http://diets.hammocksurvivalguide.com/ and check out the article listings. There's over 2,500 articles. It'll be a bit of a struggle to find them but I'm sure I found several articles there to to with diabetes.

Try to keep your daily carbbohydrate intake below 50 and avoid sugars. You'll lose weight fast if you follow this plan....also I need to tell you------when you read the labels for carb/serving------------DEDUCT the fiber from the value---------example==
serving size 1/2 cup-------carbs/serving= 22g........fiber 4g.-------------22-4 =18 ---you only would count this as 18 grams of carbs.
