About 2 months ago, I had unprotected oral sex with a guy i really didn't know. I'm curious how long it takes before physical symptoms occur. I was tested at the Health Dept, but tests came back negative. I just wonder how long I should wait before I go back to be tested again. Also, if I did have herpes, how bad is it, really? I would like to be somewhat prepared for this. I would appreciate any bit of insight from anyone. Oh yeah, I have swollen lymph nodes, but not flu-like symptoms. I'm not sure if that means anything. Thanks for reading.

If you have swollen lymph nodes, it is time to see a doctor, that could indicate some infection that is coming on or other complications, keep in mind it does not mean you have a sexually transmitted disease. Some STD's can show up as little as a week some can take months to show.
Talk to your doctor and have him/her run some tests to see why you have swollen lymph nodes.
My recommendation to you is to go to google.com and do some research on herpes and other STD's.
Don't let it frighten you. Maybe nothing was wrong with the guy. Your fears are normal. I hope that the next time you will be a little more careful

Take care. Best of luck to you!

you just might have the flu. But definatly go back to the doctor.

Herpes sore are extreemly painful. It can be very well managed.

Make sure you don't have any unprotected sex until you are sure

If you had 4 or 5 people who said they were herpes free (the sexually transmitted kind) one of those would have herpes that they never had symptoms of. Some carry it around for a life time infecting others.

p.s. The other person said you would have a sore in your mouth. That is called herpes simplex. You could have a sore in your mouth and more likely on your external genitalia lips and sometimes on the inside. It is very painful. To the other guy who answered. Don't answer questions that you don't truely know about them.

I know some women who have tested positive for herpes, but have never noticed any symptoms. Outbreaks are generally brought on by stress, not a length of time after infection. Even if you have it, you may never have any symptoms.

After 2 months, I would expect a positive result if you contracted it, but I'm not a doctor or nurse. I really wouldn't worry too much about it until you have symptoms, or begin a sexual relationship with another person. That would be the time to get tested again. And alway use condoms.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy.

usually you will have sore's in your mouth. or down below. it can take anywhere from a week to 10 year's. every disease can lay dormant in you. like if he had them below and you went down on him you can get them in your mouth. or if he had one on his mouth and went down on you you can get them. there is herpes 1 and herpes 2. they are differnet but the same thing. you can still have herpe's and have some symptom's and have all maybe none. my sister had gotten them but her b/f she was with supposely didn't have them. so if he did it took like 6 year's to show up . but if he didn't it took like 16 year's to show up. so it all depend's. but you can go the doc to get check to make sure. and alot of people get it cause the person that has them does not know they have them. they may not be showing up but they can be active and that is how a person get's them. you really have to be careful about it.
