An enlarged heart is a vague term but yes it is always a concern. Since this is your daughter's boyfriend, I must assume that he is relatively young. If this is correct he most likely has a congenital cardiomyopathy. And as this may be transmitted to his children, there is a need for proper evaluation - for your daughter's boyfriend, and his future (possibly your grandchildren) children.

it depends. enlargement is sometimes normal for athletes, so it may mean nothing at all. it can be an early sign of heart failure though, depends on how enlarged it is as to whether or not it is serious, he'd have to talk to the cardiologist to get an accurate answer. often times when its discovered early complications down the road can be delayed or avoided with treatment

Yes, he should probably start a diet, becasue an enlarged heart generally means that u eat to much junk food and chemicals. Also, daily excersize is good to. Overall, it is a major problem to worry about but dont go crazy. Just try those suggestions, or talk to your doctor âºâºâº

It is a health issue and like anything, it is better if he is aware of it before any surgeries (notify the current doctor) or playing any sports. He is lucky to know as many people do not learn until it is too late.
Now that he does know, he can manage his life accordingly.
