I make tacos all the time.
I just use ground Boca (comes in perfect little packs in the freezer) and heat it up in a pan with some salsa and a tiny amount of water.
When it thickens its done and heat up your shells and go.
Use any kind of fake beef and you're set.
I use it in spagetti, too.
YUM!

BEST veggie taco meat out there is made by Yves. It's sold in the cold case (not freezer) with the veggie lunchmeats, etc. They have "Mexican" (ie. taco meat), regular ground, and ground "turkey" types (and more depending on the store). It is THE BEST I've had. I've had meat eaters who couldn't tell the difference.
If you can't find that (I'm not sure if it's more of a local thing or a national brand), you can just use any "crumbles" (Boca, Morningstar, Quorn) and add taco seasoning. Most taco seasoning I've seen is vegetarian, but check the label just in case.

Yves Veggie Cuisine brand.
It tastes great. Especially if you buy the taco seasoning packets at the store and mix it in, or even try the Mexican version of Yves ground round.

Yes it exists.
The taste varies from very good to what is this crap?!?
I make my own:
Buy dehydrated TVP (textured vegetable protein) and reconstitute with vegetable stock.
Buy taco seasoning of choice.
Make your own tacos.
My wife swears by them!

There are soy products in the grocery store that taste great. You can also
use kidney beans or chick peas instead. Mushrooms always add a meat
like flavour. You need to experiment. Just go for it.

Take a cup of almonds and put it in your food processor and grind it up small. Add onions and a little bit of olive oil, along with your "normal" taco seasonings.
dress with guacamole and salsa and you honestly can't taste a difference.
We like Red Pepper fajitas too. . . YUM!

Tofu that has been frozen and thawed has a chewier texture that is more like meat. Smash it up and use instead of real ground meat.
