herpes is very tranmittable through intercourse, most often when someone has an outbreak or blisters in their vaginal/penis area. but you must keep in mind that there are different types of herpes and the most common type of herpes is carried by the majority if not all humans and i do mean all, this is what causes us to occassionally get a cold sore, which is actually a herpes blister..i dont think you can get if from a bite, but if youre concerned about nkowing more about this ask your local doctor..and it cannot kill you, but its uncurable..they do have treatments to make the outbreaks less often...

the only way to really tell is if they have the open sores on their mouth or genital area. i have had it for 5 years and only had 6 outbreaks without the outbreaks you can't tell and no you can't get it from a bite unless it was REALLY BAD then possibly and truth be told in a way it can kill you, herpes attacks your immune system so as you age it can get worse and if you have a severe illness herpes is basically helping it out by keeping you system weak. elderly people have been known to die from simple illness (though it isn't proven herpes was an underlying issue) and shingles is another form of herpes which is a 2nd chicken pox outbreak yes even those are consider a form of herepes my ex went through that and lost half of a tat when it spread onto his chest.

You really need to read up on herpes so that you have an idea what it is. You should probably read up on all STDs.

Here is a site for herpes: http://www.herpes.com/hsv1-2.html
