In contrast to the majority of other countries, the United States cannot be said to have one traditional cuisine. The US is made up of many ethnic groups each with its own traditional foods. For instance, in addition to European Americans, there are Chinese Americans, Mexican Americans, African Americans, Indian Americans, Japanese Americans, Thai Americans, Korean Americans, Arab Americans, etc.

Generally, I think that people in the US incorporate the cuisines of various ethnic groups into their diets. In my household, its typical for us to eat, Chinese food one day (white rice, stir fried vegetables and meat), Mexican food the next (beans, tortillas, meat), Italian food the following day (pizza or pasta), middle eastern food (meat kabobs, hummus, pita bread) and Indian food another day (rice, lentils, curry).

Moreover, people in the US sometimes mix foods from different cuisines during one meal. For instance, tortillas which are typically Mexican are often filled with sandwich meats or chicken or tuna salads which are considered European and called "wraps".

The crossover of culinary tastes is exemplified in a statistic I recently heard of: salsa has surpassed ketchup in popularity in the US!

We eat a lot of different foods. Usually we have a meat with some starch food (rice, potatoes, etc) and a vegetable. We also eat a lot of pizza, burgers and hot dogs. If you ask some Americans what their favorite food is though, many might reply Mexican, Italian, or Chinese food, even though it is very different from food in those actual countries. Though we don't like to admit it, fast food is a big part of our diets, too. It may be unhealthy, but its really convenient when your schedule is hectic!

It varies because America has a mixture of so many cultures. Some people may have red beans and rice and fufu while others have lots of pastas or tomato sauce in their meals.

I think the american appetite is a culinary experience. We have access to foods from around the world and take advantage of that. We eat a lot of Italian, Mediteranian and Oriental foods. We like Mexican, Southern U.S. fare, New England Seafood and home grown fruits and vegetables. And of course something we shouldn't be proud of, Americans eat too much fast food.

In our house we ususally eat cereal with milk, eggs with bacon or sausage for breakfast. Lunches are usually sandwiches (bread, meat, cheese, tomato, lettuce onion, dressing). Dinners usually consist of a meat (chicken, beef, pork, seafood), a vegetable, &/or a starch (corn, beans, potato, rice). Our family had the pleasure of staying in Mexico for one month & we greatly enjoyed the fresh produce (fruits & vegetables).
