anytime you spit up more than a little (a few drops) of blood, it's time to see a doctor. If it's only a few drops, you may have just coughed so hard you did something like a small scratch to your throat. If it's more than once, go see a doctor to get it check out.

Go straight to your doctor. there are a lot of medical reasons that people spit blood and they are NOT normal. Some examples: a tear on your esophagus and stomach ulcers to say the least.

Like coughing up blood? That is not normal, and with a history of smoking, I would go to the dr.

It could just be from a scratch in your throat or something, but I would still get it checked out because it could be something more serious in your lungs.
