I work in a school lunch room and we have daily choice of PB&J, with my vegan/ nonpork eating children I am very picky about cross contact, One of my co-workers would get upset with me and and throw potato wedges on plates I was being cautious with, when I spoke to my boss about it she said I was going overboard. Am I?

They do get the potato, but I don't want the person who touches the meat to touch the potato.

No and I would report that co-worker to your managers' manager as they are both wrong!!! It is cross contamination and surely a Breach of Health and safety. If a veggie/vegan child's parent found out they may sue the school !! This colleague's blatant disregard for the rules makes her unworthy of working at even a 'greasy spoon' cafe!!!
Neither person should be given responsablility for children's school meals!!!!

I know exactly how you feel...i CAN not eat my food if the person serving it has touched meat because to me it's almost the same thing. I'm a vegetarian and a teenager and i consider myself somewhat healthy so i think you are raising your kids well...as long as it's their decesion and not just yours because then they could be unhappy.

I teach public school and am impressed that you have students who are vegan. You're not being too extreme at all. If you want direct feedback, you could ask your vegan students what they think. I am very sympathetic to them, since I have been a vegetarian since 7th grade.

Not really. Just because they are kids, they desrve to be respected too for their choice of not eating meat. Your co-worker is immature, disrespectful, and wrong and so is your boss.

no, not at all. There are some real health concerns with having raw meat coming into contact with your food. I don't see the problem.

what is wrong with potato wedges? i think if you shelter your children that much they will be more succeptible to disease when they are adults. lack of immunities.
