Put it in a big pot of beans and let it simmer. You will not need as much salt, the hock is already cured in salt. My mother would sometimes put them in boiling water alone. Bon appitite.

ive never heard of anyone baking a ham hock i boil mine for about 30 minutes and put in a bag of pintoes and cook for another 2 1/2 to 3 hrs with salt and pepper

Black-eyed peas is another good choice. They don't have to soak overnite as some of the beans do .. and Lord are they good. Add salt (maybe) pepper, onion and make a large portion of cornbread. Baking a "Ham" is entirely different from using ham "hocks".

You don't.

There is really not enough meat on a ham hock to make it worth baking.

You use ham hock to flavor beans and greens while cooking.

I've never heard of baking one..most people in the southern US. slice and fry the strips. the hock is mostly fat with some lean meat in it..it is also used to add flavor to pinto beans or white beans....any kind of beans. it is very salty because i believe it is salt cured..you could bake one I suppose, but i'd let it soak in water for several hrs. first. to remove some of the salt.

You boil it. Good for bean soup/ or bean stew..
