Obviously STDs are a big problem in prison. I imagine condom use isn't particularly high, but do they even give prisoners condoms, or allow them to have them? It seems like it would be a good idea to have them available.

(Please try to answer seriously!)

In the US, no. The argument is 'it's against the rules for prisoners to have sex, so giving them condoms would encourage them to break the rules'. This is patently nonsense, since men are traded like cigarettes for 'favors' and the prison authorities know this.

STD's is a big problem in prison because of homosexual activity. I do not know whether they pass condoms to prisoners as that would help prevent it. Nice suggestion for your senators if they are interested in prison reforms.

Also consider the contrary, passing condoms in prison could be an indirect way of saying: "we encourage gay sex in prison and we would want to groom a new generation of gay men in prisons and then send them out into the society."

I really do not know the answer to this..
but..
I agree, I think it is a good idea and should be something that they give out freely to all prisioners ( or at least the prisoners who are not singally isolated and have contact with other inmates )

It makes me wonder how high the STD rates are and how high the spread of HIV/AIDS really is...

scary thought...

They effectively "should" pass on condoms in prison since there is a high population of HIV+ people. But they don't and they can't.
The reason being is that prisons are not meant to invite sexual activities among its population.

It's a catch 22!

Well, I don't think they should be having sex in prison. By handing out condoms, it would seem like they are condoning that act. Maybe the security should be tighter so they can prevent them from having sex in the first place.

Hehe... I highly doubt it... I must ask are you planning on going to prison? And if so, are you planning on having sex?
They actually might if you have a Conjugal visit.. but other than that, I think they wouldn't entertain the idea of sex within prison walls... especially since our country frowns apon gay relations.

I think they should. The inmates, whether its promoted or not, are going to have sexual relations in prison with one another. For the inmates that are being raped, they should.

no, because they do not want to encourage sex among the prisoners

I don't think so because they don't want the inmates to have sex in the first place.
