Sugar, natural or man made, and foods that are high in it. Caffeine. If you put your husband on a strict anti diabetic diet with no sugars, and also get him checked out for systemic yeast syndrome as well as gluten and lactose intolerance, he may find that his asthma is a symptom of other allergies or conditions.

Some basic info on yeast syndromes and low blood sugar is available at www.hufa.org.

I don't know about foods, but I can help you with the dust problem. This helped me a lot. I removed the carpeting from my house and installed hardwood floors which I keep dusted weekly. I removed cloth draperies and anything cloth that I could remove and I also removed excess clutter and artificial plants, etc, which collect dust. I installed cellular blinds which are easy to vacuum. Not only is my house easier to clean, but much more dust free. Having wood floors installed was the biggest help of all. The HEPA type air cleaner in the bedroom is also a must. Especially keep the bedroom dust-free and do not allow animals on the bed or in the bedroom. Don't use any type of powder-type or spray-type cleaner which can become airborne. For example, the baking-soda stuff you sprinkle on your carpets is a NO-NO! Windex is very bad for your lungs. If you use it, spray it on the cloth first, and do the same with furniture polish, or spray it on the cloth outside then bring it in to do the cleaning. You can buy HEPA-type air filters for your house heating/ac unit and keep these changed or cleaned on a regular basis. Keep the air from becoming too dry. A steamer or humidifier is good if your air is too dry.

Avoid cold drinks, oranges, grapes, especially those fruits which are of 'cold' nature. Install an air cleaner in the room to keep the air dust free.
