You should be able to get Leaflets from your Doctors or Local Clinic. I trust that she is under medical supervision, she should be having regular Chest X-Ray. If she Smokes then this will aggravate her condition. You and the Family will have to be prepared for how she will struggle to Breath, at times if the spasms get to bad you may need Emergency Help. I have just been diagnosed with the First stages of Emphysema. I am in the process of Packing Up Smoking and taking Medication. There are times I have thought that I was going to die, because I could not Breath. Sorry if this sounds morbid, but for those who do not know what it is like, HELL is the only word to describe it.

Tough diagnosis! COPD is not curable, but it can be held in check. DO NOT SMOKE with this stuff, you'll die of suffocation and there's nothing the doctors can do! It can be slightly reversed and kept in check with strenuous excercise, it also helps NOT TO BE OVERWEIGHT. With COPD the very worst thing you can do is sit down and give up, that causes a weakening of the diaphram muscles, and the breathing will become progressively harder. Stay as active as possible. A very good booklet (free)can be had by calling 800 417 6618.

Your doctor might have some information for you and the liberary has a good selection of health issue books. My grandma has COPD and i have worked in health care for a long time so i have done a huge amount of research. Plus there is the internet and you can get a huge amount of free information. WWW.webmd.com is a good one or just type in COPD in search engine and all the information is free to print out. Sadly it is a very common disease now so you can get information about it any where.

My mum just passed away from copd oct 10,diagnosed 10 years ago, theres different stages your mum will go through, starts with oxygen at night, then oxygen all day, then a nebulizer machine 4-5 times a day, then its many trips to the emergency room because of breathing attacks, the last stage is when they can't get out anymore, and suffering too much,,,then when the dr says were starting morphine drops in the mouth at home,,,,you realize at that point its a matter of time....she lasted 4 months from the start of the morphine, this drug helps them stay comfortable..to see her pass was a blessing...too much suffering prior to this drug...it took many years to get to this point, the early stages are not being able to climb stairs anymore.....hpe this helps you..its a grim outlook.

I have COPD, and if you take care not to be around smoke and take your treatments daily it can be managed. I have managed mine for 7 years. Treatments and stay away from bad air. No smoking in the area she is in. Take Care

The site below has on line support, tons of information, a section just for caregivers, and a chat platform. If you need a hard copy you can always print it out.

You can get a lot of information by typing in your search bar "copd". Also check "American Cancer Society". I wish you well, my father passed away from copd.
