I started off with cucumber rolls and wasn't exactly fond of them but I didn't hate sushi so I started to branch off into different varieties and now my favorite has to be the Caterpillar roll at my local sushi joint which includes:

- Eel
- Avadaco
- Cucumber
- Shrimp

Sushi is definitly one of those things that you either like or hate after trying it one or two times. I'd recommend at least giving it a chance even if you don't like the first variety you start with. Best of luck!

Love at first bite. I was living in a much larger city than I do now, and a friend suggested this little hole in the wall joint that had quite the reputation for good sushi. I was curious to try it before, but hadn't gotten the opportunity until that time.
I kept going back to the same place, and would try something new every time. I discovered that I adore Uni, especially if it is served traditional style (w/ the raw quail egg in the wrap w/ the Uni. It was one of the best eating experiences of my life. I am still a total sushi & sashimi fiend.

The first time I ever had sushi was also the best place I ever had sushi. I had the most wonderful tuna.

If you're worried about the idea of eating raw fish, you should know that not all sushi is raw. Go to a good place that you trust to have good quality, fresh stuff, and ideally go with someone who knows what you're eating. Then try different things and different styles--rolls, sashimi, etc etc. You're sure to find something you like.

My Taiwanese friend (An-rou)and her mother took me out for sushi to thank me for helping her mother with a paper she had to write. We both had Californai rolls. It was so good, I was realy surprised, since I never even had fish other than tuna before. Her mother told me to be careful because when they took on of An-rous frineds out for sushi, she had too much wasabi. After a while, I got full, and cocky, so I put alittle more washbi on my sushi. I was so shocked and after a while of tirng to swallow it, I ran and spit it out!

I still say that it was alot of wasabi on my sushi, but she sayus it was only alittle bit, She is right, but I wont say she is.

I am glad I tried sushi and now I eat it a lot!

i tried it when i was in highschool and the tuna sushi was so......well, i didn't appreciate the taste. But 4 years ago my bf encouraged me to try salmon sushi. at first it was not so good bec. the fact that the fish is raw but then after a wk. i was already craving for it already.

for the first timer: try the salmon sushi first bec. salmon has a milky taste that you'll like.

Yummy except for the purplish pieces of raw tuna. Something about that turned my stomach.
