I have had a lump below my right ear for a few months now- maybe longer, but I noticed it a few months ago- well 3 weeks ago I got a bad cough and congestion- ears plugged- and they are still plugged, and my cough is loose but it is hard to come up- I have no sore throat or anything else and am tired of this cough and congestion in my nose and ears- SO my doc put me on antibiotics and it is day 4- my ears are still plugged so maybe what i have is not just a cold or bacterial infection- however the lump below my ear has gone down a little- it is still there though. They did a cat scan and it came back negative- but the doc wants a second opinion and says if the antibiotics dont work, they will need to do a biopsy on this lump. Does anyone know anything about this? I have never been sick this long- its driving me crazy- and I am starting to think I have something else.

I want to add that when I do cough up the stuff it is green or brownish green- very gross- but sometimes it just wont come up even when it feels like it is- and at night I dont cough at all- it is only when I start my day and if I try to exercise I cough like mad- I know it is not asthma- because of all the congestion and gunk in my chest- I am soo confused about it though-

Ask your doctor what his reasoning is and what the purpose of the biopsy would be. Ask him what he thinks it is and what he fears it might be. Ask what has been ruled out and what needs to be ruled out. You can follow your doctors recommendations, but you can also ask questions to him, since he has the results.
