How often do you go to the doctor that manages your diabetes? I'm just talking routine checks, not visits you schedule because of issues. My doctor sees me every three months even though every time my blood work comes back great and he didn't do any sort of changes or adjustments. I think that's a little excessive.

Now Guy, you do have some pretty good points, but my doctor only looks at my feet and back once a year. At the other appointment I just sit in a chair while he looks over by blood sugar readings and then asks me if I have any questions. Plus he's never given me a free sample. Now my CDE is another story. She has given me insulin, glucose tablets, test strips, meters, infusion sets, etc. If I could see her the other three times a year it may be worth it.

Anita, you know just as I do that 3 months is excessive. Your doc makes a good dollar off you and your insurance company. A newbie might need a tuneup every 3 months for a year, but not a seasoned DB like yourself.
Remember the cash cow theory of the pharmaceutical companies? The medical doctors use it too. They purposely give you limited insulin or syringe prescription refills so you have to go in to their office whether you need to or not. Then comes the bill or the copay.

Well it all depends here. If your a newly diagnosed Diabetic then every three months for the first year or so isnt bad. If you are an uncontrol'd Diabetic then this also isnt rare. If you are Diabetic with other health issues, then every three months isnt rare.
However if you are a long term Diabetic and are having no issues with treatment, then you might want to discuss with your Doctor why he is asking to see you so often. If you are still not clear on why, then seek a second opinion on your situation.
I wont say that all Doctors are good and all are bad, some get rather money hungry while others are just there for when you need them... Getting to know your Doc and making sure that you two have great communication and feel comfy (comfy being very important) is what you should be doing.
On a general note... Most long term Diabetics receive check up (depending on condition) every 6 month or if your lucky 1 time a year. Dont forget to see your Eye Care professional once a year as well and your Dentist, also very important. Being Diabetic really is a whole body issue so very important to take care of you.
Again, discuss this with your Doctor and if you arent getting the answers you feel comfortable with, then my suggestion would be to seek a second opinion and find a Doctor that you feel confortable with....
GOOD LUCK
ciao

I'm not sure what kind of diabetes you have, but my fiance has type 1. He goes to the doctor once a year to have tests run and then whenever he needs to get prescriptions written for him. That is it.
He has good control over his sugar and his test always come back good, so he doesn't see the reason to pay for visits if he doesn't need them.
If you are doing well and don't want to have to pay for visits all the time, I don't see any reason in going all the time.

I never see the doctor that is meant to manage my diabetes as he's extremely patronising & I actually know more than him. One time I was moaning about my feet aching & he told me to buy a foot spa, so now I don't bother going to see him.
Your doctor sounds great, he's keeping a close eye on you which is good especially with all the complications diabetes can bring like glaucoma.
Count yourself lucky if any complications do arise you'll have it noticed from the beginning because your doctor is "excessive"

What do you imagine of a prognosis would accomplish? Sounds to me alongside with you're doing really all excellent the shape you're. i imagine of you likely have Asperger syndrome the way I do - extra a personality quirk than a incapacity. that is a incapacity really through actuality it differs from the norm. that doesn't make it disabling. So in spite of the actual shown actuality that for some Asperger syndrome will be really disabling for most who's now not. It does now not search for you. i imagine of it will be a waste of money and time. (NHS would really conceal it if there replaced into some starting up for a suspicion of it.)

That is how often I go to the doctor. With diabetes
you need to be monitored closly. I was controling
my diabetes through diet. I got careless and my
disease became worse. Now I control it with meds.
Considering this is a life controling disease is
every three months that bad? I think it is great
that your blood labs come back fine. Here is my wish
that your life condition doesn't get worse.

I've been diagnosed a Diabetic for five years. I had appointments every three months, even though I had very tight control of my diabetes. This last visit she told me I only have to go for visits every six months, but I still have to have my bloodwork done once every three months.

when something bad happens, it goes bad fast. An unseen sore on foot or back could easily go undetected by yourself yet seen by md, the more md sees u the more familar he will be with your particular case. Now if you do not go to doc as much he might not be as familar. Every time I see my endocronologist, he gives me insulin samples, I have not payed for insulin in about 4 years.
