Breast milk is an animal product. If they do then aren't they being unprincipled?

We know that trade and codependence can be mutually beneficial. By not trading resources with other animals like cows why do the vegans think they are doing something noble?

On the issue of consent...it should be possible at some point in the future to communicate with animals and ask them if we can have their milk. So why should we presume in the meantime that they don't want us to have it? If I was a cow and was given all the food I could eat by a human I'd be happy to give something in return.

I agree with the first answer.

And being a vegetarian is not about being noble, it's a personal choice to not involve themselves in the food chain that is controlled by the government.

However for me, I could never give up my carnivorous ways.

I find it interesting that you choose to use the word trade here. There is no trade taking place, torturing maybe, stealing for sure, but trading? What do the cows get exactly? The piece of mind that their suffering, and eventual slaughter was noble because they help produce a product that is completely unnecessary? I don't think they see it as a fair trade, nor do I understand how any rational person could see it that way.

I am no vegan, but I am a breastfeeding vegetarian and I would think that because breastmilk is specifically formulated for the purpose of feeding my daughter, no vegan would have a problem with my choice. To an extent, I think being vegan has something to do with consent. I consent to give my daughter my breastmilk because that is the reason I have it and it's the BEST thing for her. There is no equitable substitute. Did you really think that question through before you asked or are you just trying to open up a can of worms? Its really not too intelligent.

Oh please!

Vegans that are vegan because of ethical reasons are vegans because of the way animals are treated in order to get a product from them. Have you ever seen a human mother locked up in a cage and hooked up to a machine against her will in order to give milk?

Vegans don't consume products of any OTHER animal species ... breast milk is produced by the mother specifically for the baby. The milk contains nutrients essential to assist in the baby's development. So, yes, vegans breast feed their kids. By doing so they aren't being unprincipled,

Do Tree Huggers use toiletpaper?

Breast milk is a human product, and its natural to feed your infant child your milk. Animals do it, and don't have formula as an alternative.

There is nothing Unprincipled about it.

They don't believe in humans eating products from another species of animal. But humans can feed their own young. But do they let adults drink breast milk? Because it's not against any of their beliefs and not from a different animal.

because the animals cannot agree to this "trade". very silly question. Breast milk is made for human babies, just as cows milk is made for calves.

The way we get milk from cows is NOT enjoyable for the cows. They have to be impregnated for the cows to keep giving milk. Some of the babies are jammed in a tiny box in the dark, so that their poor little bodies dont develop, muscles dont strengthen, until they are slaughtered. Doesn't veal sound YUMMY???

Of course, because that is what that milk is made for. The principle of no meat, egg or dairy comes from the desire to not want to exploit animals or to ingest items not meant for human consumption. Cow milk is for cows, human milk is for humans. (BTW, I'm an omnivore and even I was offended by the ridiculous nature of this question)

Er, vegans are vegans because they don't like the thought of animals used without their consent to produce food items for humans.

Breast-feeding is consentual, and it's the healthiest way to nurture your child, too.
