If dietary changes and cardio don't work the same way it didn't work for me, I was able to finally lower my blood pressure with ViaViente (I'm 39 years old and hi BP runs in my family). ViaViente is a 100% natural whole food juice that is clinically proven to lower blood pressure, heart rate, blood sugar, join pain and stiffness (among many other ailments).

Since dietary changes and cardio did not seem to be helping me the way I anticipated, my personal trainer/nutritionist recommended I try this health juice. Try to do everything you can on your own BEFORE being medically treated-- some of those meds they give for blood pressure damage your liver and kidneys over time, and the doctor will want you to take them for the rest of your life.

So, keeping that in mind:

* Get a blood pressure cuff to use at home and check your BP every day.
* Eliminate salt from your diet.
* Drink at most one to two cups of coffee per day, not more; try to cut down on all caffeinated beverages and chocolate.
* Take a multivitamin.
* Get plenty of exercise; not just walking, but something strenuous that gets your heart rate up like running or aerobics. (I walk, run, and play with my dogs, and do some weight lifting.)

If after trying these measures for a couple of weeks you don't see your blood pressure drop at least a few points, you probably do need to see the doctor. But usually these things will help a lot.

I also occasionally take an herb called "hawthorn". Do some research on any herbal supplement before starting it, however.

Number 1 is exercise. Start with 15 min on a treadmill or stationary bike. You don't have to go fast just do it. Speed and intensity can be increased moderately. Do this at least 3 tms/week. It will take about 5-6 weeks before you'll really notice a change. This alone usually isn't enough for most ppl - need to add dietary changes.
