Many people at my uni smoke outside the buildings, particularly outside doorways, which is against regulations. I am an asthmatic and I find it hard to avoid cigarette smoke at uni. I have tried going through the uni administration, but so far it has not worked. How do I get people to not smoke at uni, particularly around the buildings and outside doorways?

I'm a smoker, but a semi courteous one.. TRy to get a petetion going around see what the people want. Change the designated areas. Not outside the doorway. And make it that if they don't abide by the rules. They are fined or have to spend the day picking up cigarette butts. Type up something and pass it around.. Choose a good designation. It may work. Good for you ..

You can't! They are outside and maybe you should just find another way in or just hold your breath!! Smokers have every right to smoke outside if they want to and there is nothing that you can do about it, just deal with it. I am asthmatic also and it does not bother me, just take an extra puff on your inhaler when you get past them..simple as that!

You can't.
They're outside for christsake!
You've forced them out there, now you want them to move away fom the doors. Give me a break!

How do I make people stop wearing perfume/cologne that triggers my asthma? The ones who wear the worst smelling perfumes/colognes always wear enough to last a week, and refresh it every 1/2 hour or so.
I can smoke all day, but some person walks by reeking of the wrong cologne/perfume & I am gasping & puffing my inhaler in seconds.
They should make THAT illegal.

This is something that would make you very unpopular. Do you realize what your saying?

I saw a man, shot and robbed, the cops saved his life but, he turned around and sued them because he lost his money.
The gist of the story is you can help someone, save their life but, they'll slap you in the face because your upsetting their day.
You won't win.

I'd say keep hassling the uni admin until they do something! They should be doing something about it if it's a rule and if it's affecting your health and wellbeing. You go girl!

if you're in a place where you should be and can't help avoid them, most smokers are courteous enough to put out their cigarettes when asked to. so, politely ask them to put it out for you and explain why (that you have a lung problem). hopefully, they would respect that.
