I'm 25 weeks pregnant, and all the pregnancy books I've read say that heart palpatations are not good during pregnancy, and to call your doctor if you experience them. Ive been having increasingly uncomfortable palpatations since friday night, and cannot contact my doctor. They only last a few beats, but are now occuring every few hours. do i need to go to the hospital? i cant really afford it unless it is necessary. (the palpatations seem to occur with an unexpected sense of anxiety and lately a lightheadedness)

i forgot to mention that i was born with a heart murmur that disappeared on its own but reappeared when i was 15 (when i passed out horseback riding!!) , then went into hiding again. Also, my last appointment was friday afternoon, just before the palpatations started to occur, and everything was fine then; even my blood pressure, which was "excellent."

Maternal palpitations are common. It's due to the increased blood volume which peaks at 28 to 32 weeks, so you're on track. The stroke volume of the heart increases and progesterone can cause the heartbeat to be irregular at times. If you have a history of cardiac problems you need to be seen by a doctor right away. You've mentioned anxiety and lightheadedness. If you also experience dizziness and/or shortness of breath, you need to be seen right away. For most women, palps are normal. There must be an emergency number or answering service that can contact your doctor if necessary. I've never heard of an OB who couldn't be contacted. Go ahead and let your doctor know about this and how it's affecting you.

DO NOT take anything without first consulting your doctor. That includes the vitamin B6 suggested to you.

As I was reading your question I had "anxiety" repeating in my head until you confirmed it at the end. I had this too. My doctor recommended one 50 mg tablet of vitamin B6 everyday along with my prenatals. It REALLY worked. B6 is a proven antidepressant and eventhough the anxious person is not dpressed, the chemical imbalance is the same. Ask your OB if you can take it. Also get a message everyday whether it's from your hubby, your sister, best friend, mom, older child or even if you have to pay for it. Also nice warm showers help.
remember to relax and breathe deeply and you're gonna be FINE. The palpitations are NOTHING if they're anxiety related and a normal part of pregnancy IF you don't have a history of heart problems. Do mention them to your doc, but I wouldn't worry about them. Soon you're going to meet the most amazing human being you've ever met. Get excited and try to keep your mind busy. Renting comedies is very helpful too.
Best of luck to you! ;o)

palpitation is common among normal pregnant women and had a tendency to increase to term.
yet you have other symptoms like lightheadedness and you have a past medical history of congenital heart problem and maybe the pregnancy is aggravating it so my suggestion is that you should visit your doctor...
it could be just normal but it could be something which needs treatment and the faster the better
wish you great health

Reducing stress and anxiety can help lessen your heart palpitations. Please take ECG and show the doctor in order to check any serious abnormality in functioning the heart.

perhaps you should have your blood pressure checked and increase your intake of water ...
good luck - hope it passes soon and that the rest of your pregnancy is healthy.
