Sleep apnea occurs when you regularly stop breathing for 10 seconds or longer during sleep. It can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the number of times in an hour that your breathing stops (apnea) or becomes very slow (hypopnea). Apnea episodes may occur from 5 to 50 times an hour.

Sleep apnea is a condition where you literally stop breathing when you are asleep. In some cases you can stop breathing many times in a night and actually wake up before you breathe again. This prevents you from getting REM sleep, which is the deep dreaming restful sleep you need!

Untreated it can cause serious health problems or even death. There are several treatments available. Some people can be helped with minor surgery, some are helped with a mask device (CPAP) that provides a positve airflow and keeps your airways open.

You are doing the right thing being tested.

Good luck!

Apnea is sleep interrupted by blockage of the airway -- you snore yourself awake for a second because the airway is blocked.

IT DOES NOT GO AWAY BY ITSELF, it requires treatment.

There are several different kids of sleep apnea -- here is an excellent site describing this problem: http://www.helpguide.org/life/sleep_apnea.htm

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.

it means you lose normal breathing pattern to zero during sleeping, unconsciously.
it can happen as a result of breathing tube got squeezed or other respiratory blockage, not from sleeping disorder itself
