I have been snoring loudly and I smoke 2 packs of cigarettes daily. I have quit smoking before. During the times I quit, I swear my snoring was decreased substantially. A friend of mine said smoking has nothing to do with it. I believe the smoking does have alot to do with it. Does anyone know who is correct?

I am no doctor. But here is what makes sense to me:

Smoking even 1 or 2 cigarettes a day could be enough irritant to cause the lining of the throat, sinuses and ear canals to become inflamed. There are some studies citing heavy smoking associated with snoring. Also, your own experience with your body should clue you in. Here are some links to check to clue in your friend:

The frequency of habitual snoring increased with the amount of tobacco smoked.

Try having him adjust his sleep position, certain sleep positions make it harder for a person to breath. If fixing his sleep position doesn't work then the only real effective solution might be surgery which basically removes something in the nose that is responsible for the snoring.

i doubt smoking causes you to snore worse, my mom and grandmother never smoked and both of them snored louder than 3 people put together. my dad on the other hand smoked and while he did snore, it wasnt nearly as loud as my mom.
