If it is a lot of clear phlegm that you are coughing up, you could have allergies or allergic asthma. It could also be a viral infection, like viral pneumonia--although over time the phlegm will turn thick white.

If it is yellow or green, it could be a bacterial infection.

I would talk to your doctor if you are coughing it up all the time, there are medicines to treat allergies, and if it is viral pneumonia he may give you antibiotics to prevent a concurrent bacterial infection.

There is an over the counter medication called Mucinex....it works really well!!
